this tool is a skill
By its own framework, this site is a rung-2 skill: a prompt with some packaging that a competent person could rebuild in an afternoon. Rather than pretend otherwise, we rebuilt it for you. Run the ruling locally, as many times as you like, with no daily limit.
the same judge
Grills any idea with the three questions, rules the rung, and proves it with the cheapest version of you.
no daily limit
The web tool is one free ruling a day. The skill runs every time you ask it to.
in your editor
Works in Claude Code or any agent that reads skills. The ruling happens where you build.
drop it in your skills folder
Paste this into a terminal. It downloads the skill and unzips it into ~/.claude/skills/the-moat-line, where Claude Code finds it automatically.
curl -fsSL https://shoulditbeaprompt.com/skill/the-moat-line.zip -o /tmp/the-moat-line.zip unzip -o /tmp/the-moat-line.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/
the whole framework, packaged
The one-line test, the four rungs, the structural-versus-kinetic-moat split, and the founder-market-fit read, plus the ruling format that ends every verdict with the artifact that would replace you. Two reference files go deeper: six worked rulings that span the ladder, and a guide to reading the moat by product type and seeing through the dodges founders use to inflate their rung. The judge has the tone, the range, and the judgment before it grades yours.
Three of the worked examples are our own companies, graded honestly. You can read those as the precedent.
read it, fork it, argue with it
The skill is open source. Read exactly how the ruling works, fork it for your own framework, or open a pull request with a verdict you think it got wrong. The whole judgment, the rungs and the dodges and the worked examples, sits right there in plain markdown.
