v0 vs Lovable: UI-first code or a complete app?

v0 vs Lovable on what each builds, backend, code ownership, free tiers and per-seat vs per-credit pricing, with a pick-this-if verdict. Nov 2026.

Pick v0 if

  • Your stack is Next.js and you deploy on Vercel
  • You care most about clean, standard front-end code
  • You're turning designs or screenshots into real UI

Pick Lovable if

  • You want a complete app with database and sign-in
  • You don't want to choose backend services
  • You want the most polished first version

Short answer: v0 writes the code a front-end developer would have written; Lovable delivers the app a founder wanted. If the job is interfaces on a Next.js and Vercel stack, choose v0. If the job is a working product with users and data by the end of the week, choose Lovable. The comparison below uses both vendors' published pricing and docs, checked November 1, 2026; details are in our v0 and Lovable reviews.

The differences that matter

What each one is for

v0 describes itself as an agent for "real code and full-stack apps and agents", and names Next.js, Tailwind and shadcn/ui. It builds backend logic too, but its centre of gravity is the interface: dashboards, storefronts, marketing sites, and UI from Figma files or screenshots. Lovable's centre of gravity is the whole app: screens, auth, database and hosting from one description, with Lovable Cloud doing the backend.

Backend

Lovable Cloud gives you database, auth, storage and edge functions without connecting anything, at the cost of a backend that can't be unplugged once on. v0 connects to backends and data platforms but leaves more decisions to you. For a developer that's a feature; for a non-developer it's the difference between finishing and stalling.

Pricing model

v0 sells seats: $30 per user a month on Plus with $30 of credits, plus $2 of daily credits on login, and credits burn per token at per-model rates. ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can route eligible OpenAI-model responses through their ChatGPT plan. Lovable sells credit tiers: $25 for 100 credits on Pro, scaling to 10,000, not per seat. A solo builder pays similar amounts on either; a team of five pays v0 per person, while Lovable's credits are shared by the workspace.

Ownership

Both sync code to Git on every plan. v0's output is plain Next.js and it can open pull requests instead of pushing directly; its tie is that deploys are built around Vercel. Lovable's code moves just as easily, but its Cloud backend moves only by a manual migration.

Which to pick

Situation Pick Why
Marketing site or dashboard on Vercel v0 Standard Next.js, one-click deploy
MVP with sign-up, data and payments later Lovable Backend handled for you
Designer turning Figma into working UI v0 Builds from Figma files and screenshots
Non-technical founder, first product Lovable Fewer decisions to get to a working app
Front end that developers will maintain v0 Idiomatic code, PR-based changes
Small team sharing one budget Lovable Credits shared by the workspace, not per seat

Questions people ask

Is v0 or Lovable better for beginners?

Lovable. It sets up the database, sign-in and hosting itself, so a non-developer gets a complete app with fewer decisions. v0 produces cleaner standard code but leaves more of the backend choices to you.

Which has the better free plan?

For evaluation, Lovable's: 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month, though projects publish to invited people only. v0's Free plan allows 7 messages a day and gives new users a one-time $5 credit. Both include GitHub sync. Checked November 1, 2026.

Can I use v0 and Lovable together?

Yes, through GitHub. Both sync to a repository, so a common pattern is to build UI in v0 and the app around it elsewhere, or to start in Lovable and hand the repository to developers. Running two agents on the same branch at once invites conflicts; take turns.
