Our verdict · App builder
The best of the builders at standard React and Next.js code: interfaces, dashboards and marketing pages that deploy to Vercel in one step and sync to GitHub even on Free. It's less of a complete backend-in-a-box than Lovable or Replit, and the free tier is now tight for new users.
Pick it if
- Teams already on Vercel and Next.js
- Designers turning Figma files or screenshots into real UI
- Front-end work you'll hand to developers afterwards
Skip it if
- You want database, auth and hosting decided for you
- Your stack isn't React
- You need a generous free tier to evaluate it
v0 is Vercel's app-building agent. It writes Next.js, React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui code, deploys to Vercel in a click and syncs to GitHub on every plan, including Free. That makes it the builder whose output looks most like what a developer would have written by hand. This review compares v0's published pricing and documentation against our six criteria; it isn't a benchmark.
Scores
- Speed to a first version4/5
UI comes fast and looks right; a full-stack app takes more wiring than Lovable or Bolt.
- Depth before the wall3/5
Standard code helps it scale further than most builders, but it's still a chat-driven agent on top of a repo.
- Backend and data3/5
Can build backend logic and connect data sources, but leaves more of the backend choices to you.
- Ownership and exit4/5
Plain Next.js in your GitHub from the free plan up; the main tie is that hosting is easiest on Vercel.
- Pricing predictability3/5
Clear seat prices, but credits burn per token at per-model rates the docs don't list in one table.
- Team and production readiness4/5
Shared chats and central billing on Plus; training opt-out on Business; SSO and RBAC on Enterprise.
Overall 3.5/5, the plain average of six criteria. Scored by Mahmoud Halat from published specs and docs, checked Nov 1, 2026. How we score.
Pricing: seats, credits and the ChatGPT option
| Plan | Price (USD) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 7 messages a day, deploy to Vercel, GitHub sync, one-time $5 credit for new users |
| Plus | $30/user/mo | $30 of credits per user a month plus $2 a day on login, shared chats, central billing |
| Business | $100/user/mo | $30 of credits per user a month, training opt-out by default |
| Enterprise | Custom | SAML SSO, role-based access, priority access with no queues, SLAs |
- Billed in
- Credits drawn by input and output tokens, at a rate that depends on the model
- Free tier
- 7 messages a day; new users get a one-time $5 credit (existing free users keep $5 a month)
Source: v0 docs: pricing, v0.app/pricing. Prices checked Nov 1, 2026, before tax. Unused monthly credits roll over and expire after 65 days. ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can connect their ChatGPT plan to cover eligible OpenAI-model responses; v0 still charges a small platform fee in credits per request.
v0's pricing has three moving parts.
Seats. Plus is $30 per user a month and Business $100, each with $30 of monthly credits per user plus $2 of daily credits on login. Business is mostly paying for governance: training opt-out by default. An older $20 Premium plan is being retired and isn't open to new users.
Credits are tokens. v0 measures input (your prompt, chat history, source files and Vercel-specific context) and output, and how many tokens a credit buys depends on the model. The per-model rates appear in the model picker rather than in one published table, so the easiest way to estimate is to watch your usage for a week. Long chats on large projects get more expensive per message as context grows.
ChatGPT billing. v0 now lets ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers connect their account so eligible responses from supported OpenAI models count against the ChatGPT plan. It's useful if you already pay for ChatGPT, with caveats from v0's docs: you still need a v0 credit balance for a per-request platform fee and for images and subagents, and when you hit the ChatGPT limit v0 pauses rather than switching to credits.
The free tier is now an evaluation tier: seven messages a day and, for new users, a one-time $5 credit.
What it builds well
v0's strength is standard, idiomatic front-end code. Dashboards, marketing sites, ecommerce storefronts and internal tools come out as Next.js with shadcn/ui components, which a developer can pick up without reverse-engineering anything. It can build high-fidelity UI from wireframes, screenshots or Figma files, which makes it a natural tool for designers. Its agent can search the web, inspect sites and fix its own errors, and every change can be deployed or opened as a pull request for review.
Where it struggles
v0 is less of a backend-in-a-box than Lovable, Replit or Base44. It can write backend logic and connect to data sources, but you make more of the decisions about database and auth yourself. If you want "describe it, get a hosted app with login and data", the others get there with fewer steps. The tight free tier also makes v0 harder to evaluate than Bolt or Lovable.
What you own
This is v0's best category. GitHub sync is on every plan, the code is plain Next.js, and changes can arrive as pull requests. The only real tie is hosting: one-click deploys go to Vercel, and the generated apps are built around Vercel's platform, so running elsewhere means some configuration work. Compared with a builder whose backend lives inside the platform, that's a mild form of lock-in.
Key facts
- Made by
- Vercel
- Builds
- Next.js, React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui apps, UI and backend logic; clones from screenshots or Figma
- Backend
- Connects to backends and data platforms; no single built-in database named in the docs
- Code export
- GitHub sync on every plan; deploy or open a pull request
- Lock-in
- Low for code: standard Next.js. Deploys are tuned for Vercel
Alternatives
- LovableMore of the backend handled for you
- BoltToken allowance suits long sessions; two-way GitHub sync

Questions people ask
Is v0 free?
There's a Free plan with a 7-message daily limit, deploys to Vercel and GitHub sync. New users get a one-time $5 credit that doesn't renew; free users from before the change keep a $5 monthly allowance. For regular use, Plus is $30 per user a month (checked November 1, 2026).
How do v0 credits work?
Credits pay for tokens, the text v0 reads and writes. Input includes your prompt, chat history, source files and Vercel context, so long chats on big projects cost more per message. The rate per credit depends on the model you pick. Unused monthly credits roll over and expire after 65 days.
Can I use my ChatGPT subscription in v0?
Yes, if you have ChatGPT Plus or Pro. You connect it and eligible responses from supported OpenAI models count against your ChatGPT plan. v0 still charges a small platform fee in credits per request, and image generation, subagents and other support work still use v0 credits.
Does v0 only work with Vercel?
The code is standard Next.js and React in your GitHub repository, so it can run elsewhere. Deploys from v0 itself go to Vercel, and the generated apps are tuned for it.
